Researcher Development Programme

"I understand how to seek out funding and career opportunities and how to make the most of them."

This means that you know how to find funding opportunities and create effective applications, as well as understanding the processes and timescales involved in academic funding.

It also means that you understand how to seek out career opportunities; not just finding jobs but being aware of opportunities to engage in entrepreneurial activities and knowing how to take advantage of them. You should be able to make speculative approaches to potential employers, collaborators or investors.

There are several offices within the University which can help you with understanding funding, such as the Research Operations Office,  Research Strategy Office and Finance Division.

The Careers Service can provide assistance in developing the skills needed to find and take advantage of employment opportunities, and there are a wealth of resources available in Cambridge for those interested in entrepreneurship (see 'Enterprise and IP' on the RD Hub).
