Postgraduate Researcher Development

It can be overwhelming to know where to start when you're a new postgraduate student. The first thing we recommend doing is exploring the Cambridge Researcher Development Framework (CamRDF): this maps out the core competencies you need as a professional researcher, and will give you an idea of where your strengths and areas of focus are.

Then, sign up to Inkpath. This is where you can browse, find and book development opportunities not only from the Researcher Development team but also other specialist providers like Public Engagement and the Language Centre. You'll first be asked to complete a Skills Analysis mapped against the CamRDF.

Finally, we suggest getting started with the set of introductory courses and videos below, to make sure you have a solid foundation and help you develop an idea of where you need to focus your energy next.

Once you've completed the above, check out Inkpath and our Online Resources to see where to head next, based on your reflections from the Skills Analysis. Remember that you can always look for One-to-One Support from your discipline's Researcher Developer if you're unsure about any aspect of your professional development.
