Researcher Development Support

These thirty-minute (remote) sessions with a member of the RD team are intended to support you in your Researcher Development.

You might want to book a slot for any number of reasons, including discussing your time and project management, the PhD journey, your communication skills, or any other issues or concerns you may have. Please read our Fair Use Policy.

All of the Researcher Developers who hold these sessions have survived doing a PhD themselves, and understand all the ‘ups and downs’ of your PhD journey.

Email the appropriate Researcher Developer for your discipline to request a slot:

Improve your Academic Writing

A free and confidential service to help you improve your writing skills, provided by a Royal Literary Fund Writing Fellow - a professional, published author whose role is to help you strengthen your writing.

A tutorial could help you to express your ideas more clearly, focus your reading for report, dissertation or thesis writing, plan your study time, and more. You should come prepared with an idea of what you'd like to work on.

Slots will be available for third-years in Michaelmas Term, first-years in Lent Term and second-years in Easter Term. You will receive a direct invitation to book at the appropriate time.

Communication and Personal Impact

This individually-focused and confidential coaching session will help you refine your presentation skills, help you speak more confidently as an emerging leader in your research field, and develop new approaches to your communication in a wide range of professional situations.

You will be asked to give a short presentation or excerpt at the beginning of your session, either focused on something specific you would like to practise, or just talking for 2-3 minutes about yourself and your work.

You can book a slot via Inkpath.
